As the Health & Safety Manager you will be responsible for providing direct management and leadership in this critical function within the business, and ensuring the company complies with current legislation and approved codes of practice in relation to employment and service delivery.

The key responsibilities of the Health and Safety Manager will be…

  • To take ownership of the company’s Health & Safety Policy and ensure it is implemented consistently across the organisation and its associates where relevant
  • To work proactively with managers to establish and maintain a system that promotes a culture of safe working practices across the organisation
  • To educate key managers on H&S essentials, including the running of workshops as required
  • To provide practical, coaching support and specialist advice to all relevant managers and property owners
  • To implement and manage the delivery of health and safety induction programme
  • To lead the maintenance and review of accident/incident reporting procedures, and implement and communicate action plans for improvement/prevention
  • To monitor, evaluate and review H&S policy and practice through audit system and regular communication with relevant people
  • To advise the Board and senior management team on implications of current and emerging health, safety and welfare legislation, making recommendations and generating action plans to ensure continued compliance
  • To monitor and support property owners to ensure awareness of their responsibility to comply with H&S regulations
  • To manage correspondence with relevant statutory bodies ensuring that full compliance is followed in the reporting and investigating of RIDDOR related accidents
  • Prepare and deliver reports as required, to board. HR and Owners team

The successful Health & Safety Manager will…

  • Hold a professional qualification such as the NEBOSH diploma and be a chartered member of IOSH
  • Have detailed knowledge and working experience of current regulations across relevant areas of H&S, including CDM, fire and asbestos
  • Demonstrate extensive expertise in effective H&S management strategies and best practice
  • Be an strong communicator, both verbal and written, across all levels – with internal and external stakeholders
  • Show a proven track record in the delivery of relevant H&S systems and advice within the Retail sector
  • Have sound critical thinking and excellent written skills
  • Be an effective  leader and manager with the ability to negotiate and influence constructively
  • Have proven experience of managing a multi site environment and therefore be happy to travel around the UK if required
  • Ideally have a holiday property/business background
